Based on actual events, the excellent, white-knuckle, French espionage movie, The Farewell Affair, reveals that the old Soviet Union had used sexual blackmail to acquire virtually every American secret. There was no hint of pedophilia, just basic marital infidelity (honeypot role played in a cameo appearance by Diane Kruger). If the screenplay is accurate, then among many Americans who evidently chose treason over personal embarrassment and divorce, one unnamed individual decided that even nuclear annihilation was a better option and delivered to the Russians the codes that controlled America’s nuclear weapons. So how far might an actual pedophile go to prevent the exposition of his crimes? The movie played in American theaters (Kendall Square Cinema) but at some point since its 2009 release it was blackballed: not available, ever, on any streaming services or pay-per-views, and available to purchase only as a DVD.
